About Us

Increasing Access to Experiential Learning

We worry about students who lack access to internships, service-learning courses and quality volunteer work. Unprecedented challenges are making it hard to breakthrough the entry-level job market. Experiential learning is a high impact practice proven to help students develop professionally and enhance their employment prospects. That's why our mission is to ensure that any student who wants experiential learning opportunities have them.

Given the barriers preventing colleges and employers from scaling access to meet the high demand, we believe empowering students to create their own quality volunteer work opportunities and supporting them with proactive coaching is the best way to fill the gap quickly.

Success Stories

    Marshall University, Service-Learning Course Student

I was attracted to the PeerTakes projects our service-learning class was doing because I knew mistakes I made in high school cost me time and money in college. I didn't know how unprepared I was until I arrived on campus. I worked with my high school teachers and former athletic coaches to relay information I wish I had back to younger students. Setting up Zoom sessions was a great way to meet course criteria for applying the various leadership styles we were learning and keep it going after that.

PeerTakes Projects Added to My Resume

  • Gained valuable leadership and soft skill experience through ongoing involvement in mentoring activities.
  • Collaborated with former high school coaches, teachers, and staff to create opportunities to be a mentor.
  • Motivated athletes to focus on academic success by sharing challenges and pitfalls college athletes face.
  • Demonstrated empathy and understanding by sharing my story of aiming for college even though it isn't the norm for our community and awareness about options is often unintentionally limited for most students.
  • Achieved the highest number of mentoring impressions out of 28 students in my service-learning class.
  • Organized and led a study group to help freshman engineering majors better prepare for exams.

Emily, IUPUI, Graphic Design Major

I wanted my capstone project to involve social impact to help build the personal brand I wanted to project on LinkedIn and in job interviews. After meeting a ServeFully coach at a campus event, we worked with my professor to define the scope of work for the topic "redesigning the service-learning experience for students."

Impact Collabs Project Added to My Resume

  • Designed capstone for social impact to maximize its value.
  • Fostered positive relationship with a service partner.
  • Collaborated with advisor and partner to define scope of work.
  • Researched campus data and designed a data collection tool.
  • Interviewed professors, administrators, and students.
  • Compiled data and delivered findings in a poster format.
  • Surfaced pain points and data for my college's Department of Teaching and Learning to consider in program design.
  • Empowered ServeFully to improve their volunteer work design process by surfacing the characteristics students most want to see.

Luke, Marshall University

Approaching graduation with no internship or work experience is scary. A ServeFully coach pointed me toward a free resume optimization tool designed by education and workforce development leaders to facilitate the shift to skills-based hiring. I practiced optimizing my resume and then taught other students how to use it to enhance their job search.

Teach It Back Project Added to My Resume

  • Gained valuable leadership and soft skill experience through involvement in mentoring activities.
  • Supported work of Open Skills Network to address national labor market challenges.
  • Trained how to use a free resume optimization tool being piloted by employment data firm Lightcast to help facilitate the use of a common skills-based language for job postings, course syllabi, and resumes.
  • Fostered relationships with campus administrators and businesses to get sponsors for a Career Fair booth.
  • Gave presentations on using the tool to tailor resumes to the skills employers are demanding.
  • Achieved 20% beyond my target goal of teaching 100 students how to surface skills experience they may have gained in class or find missing skills they need to add to be more competitive.
